What Zifi CV 200 Tablet is used for

• Typhoid fever
• Urinary tract infections
• Throat, tonsil and ear infections
• Bronchitis and chest infections
• Always given with amoxycillin for resistant chest, sinus, urine, skin and dental infections

How it works

Cefixime

Cefixime blocks the building of the bacterial cell wall. It is taken by mouth and covers a wide range of the bacteria that cause common infections.

Clavulanic acid

Clavulanic acid has almost no antibiotic action of its own. It blocks the beta-lactamase enzyme that resistant bacteria use to destroy amoxycillin, so the antibiotic can work again.

Common side effects

• Loose motions
• Nausea and stomach pain
• Gas and bloating
• Rash
• Loose motions (more common than with amoxycillin alone)
• Nausea
• Stomach discomfort
• Thrush

Most side effects are mild and settle as your body adjusts. Tell your doctor if any of them persist or trouble you.

Quick tips

• Complete the full course — in typhoid this often means 7 to 14 days
• Take at the same times each day, with or after food
• Do not use leftover cefixime for a new illness
• Take it at the start of a meal — this reduces the loose motions considerably
• The 625 and 1 g strengths differ only in the amoxycillin part; do not switch on your own
• Complete the course
