What Zerodol-SP Tablet is used for

• Pain and swelling in arthritis and spondylitis
• Back pain, muscle and joint pain
• Dental pain and pain after surgery
• Period pain
• Fever of any cause
• Headache and migraine
• Toothache, earache and body ache
• Pain after minor injury or surgery

How it works

Aceclofenac

Aceclofenac blocks the COX enzymes that make prostaglandins, the substances that drive pain, swelling and stiffness at the site of injury or inflammation.

Paracetamol

Paracetamol blocks the production of prostaglandins in the brain — the chemical messengers that create the sensation of pain and push the body's temperature set-point up. It relieves pain and brings fever down but has very little effect on inflammation.

Common side effects

• Stomach pain or burning
• Indigestion, nausea
• Diarrhoea
• Dizziness
• Raised liver enzymes on blood tests
• Generally very well tolerated at normal doses
• Nausea in some people
• Rash (uncommon)

Most side effects are mild and settle as your body adjusts. Tell your doctor if any of them persist or trouble you.

Safety advice

Quick tips

• Always take it after food, never on an empty stomach
• Use the lowest dose for the shortest time that controls your pain
• Stop and call a doctor if you notice black stools, vomiting of blood, or severe stomach pain
• Check the label of cold, flu and pain combination medicines — many already contain paracetamol, and doses add up
• Never exceed 4 grams (usually 8 tablets of 500 mg) in 24 hours for an adult
• If fever does not settle in 3 days, see a doctor rather than continuing on your own
