What Thyronorm 50mcg Tablet is used for

• Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
• Goitre and thyroid nodules
• After thyroid surgery or radioiodine
• Hypothyroidism in pregnancy

How it works

Thyroxine replaces the hormone an underactive thyroid gland cannot make, restoring the body's normal metabolic rate.

Common side effects

• At the correct dose there should be none
• Too high a dose causes palpitations, tremor, weight loss, sweating and insomnia

Most side effects are mild and settle as your body adjusts. Tell your doctor if any of them persist or trouble you.

Safety advice

Quick tips

• Take it on an empty stomach with water, 30 to 60 minutes before breakfast, at the same time daily
• Keep calcium, iron and antacids at least 4 hours away — they block its absorption
• Do not change brand or dose on your own; recheck TSH about 6 weeks after any change
