What Ondem 4 Tablet is used for

• Vomiting from gastroenteritis
• Nausea and vomiting after surgery
• Nausea from chemotherapy and radiotherapy
• Severe vomiting in pregnancy (only on specialist advice)

How it works

Ondansetron blocks serotonin receptors in the gut and the vomiting centre of the brain, cutting off the signal that triggers vomiting.

Common side effects

• Headache
• Constipation
• Tiredness
• Flushing

Most side effects are mild and settle as your body adjusts. Tell your doctor if any of them persist or trouble you.

Quick tips

• The mouth-dissolving tablet is useful when you cannot keep anything down
• Constipation is the commonest nuisance — drink plenty of fluid
• Vomiting with severe stomach pain or blood needs a doctor, not just an anti-emetic
