What Montair-LC Tablet is used for

• Allergic rhinitis, sneezing and runny nose
• Hives and skin itching
• Allergic conjunctivitis
• Allergic cough and post-nasal drip
• Asthma prevention, including exercise-induced asthma
• Allergic rhinitis
• Allergic cough
• Often combined with levocetirizine for allergic rhinitis

How it works

Levocetirizine

Levocetirizine blocks histamine H1 receptors, the switch that produces sneezing, itching, watery eyes and hives during an allergic reaction. It causes less drowsiness than older antihistamines.

Montelukast

Montelukast blocks leukotrienes, inflammatory chemicals that narrow the airways and swell the nasal lining. It is a preventive medicine, not a rescue treatment.

• Dry mouth
• Headache
• Tiredness
• Stomach pain
• Cough

Most side effects are mild and settle as your body adjusts. Tell your doctor if any of them persist or trouble you.

Safety advice

Quick tips

• Take it at bedtime if it makes you sleepy
• It works best taken regularly through the allergy season rather than only when symptoms peak
• Do not combine with another antihistamine
• Take it in the evening, as leukotriene levels rise at night
• Never use it in place of your inhaler during an attack
• Tell your doctor promptly about any change in mood, sleep or behaviour, especially in a child
