What Foracort 100 Inhaler is used for

• Maintenance treatment of asthma, always with an inhaled steroid
• Chronic obstructive lung disease
• Prevention of exercise-induced wheeze
• Preventive treatment of asthma
• Allergic rhinitis (nasal spray)
• Inflammatory bowel disease (oral, specialist use)

How it works

Formoterol

Formoterol relaxes the airway muscle for about 12 hours. It starts working within minutes but must always be used together with an inhaled steroid in asthma.

Budesonide

Budesonide reduces the inflammation and swelling in the airway lining. Taken regularly it prevents asthma attacks; it does nothing for an attack already under way.

Common side effects

• Tremor
• Palpitations
• Headache
• Muscle cramps
• Throat irritation
• Hoarse voice
• Oral thrush
• Sore throat
• Cough after inhaling

Most side effects are mild and settle as your body adjusts. Tell your doctor if any of them persist or trouble you.

Quick tips

• Never use it as your only asthma medicine — it must be paired with a steroid inhaler
• Take it at the same times each day
• Rinse your mouth after combined inhalers
• Rinse your mouth and spit after every dose — this prevents thrush and hoarseness
• It is a preventer: take it every day even when you feel well
• Use a spacer for better delivery
