What Eldoper OZ Tablet is used for

• Urinary tract infections
• Diarrhoea and stomach infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Eye and ear drops for local infections
• Some chest infections
• Amoebic and bacterial dysentery
• Giardia infection
• Dental and gum infections
• Vaginal infections
• Often combined with ofloxacin for diarrhoea

How it works

Ofloxacin

Ofloxacin blocks the bacterial enzymes that unwind and copy DNA, so the bacteria cannot multiply.

Ornidazole

Ornidazole enters anaerobic bacteria and parasites and damages their DNA, killing organisms that survive without oxygen.

Common side effects

• Nausea
• Loose motions
• Headache and dizziness
• Sleep disturbance
• Sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
• Metallic taste
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Dark urine

Most side effects are mild and settle as your body adjusts. Tell your doctor if any of them persist or trouble you.

Safety advice

Quick tips

• Do not take antacids, calcium, iron or milk within 2 hours of the dose — they stop it being absorbed
• Use sunscreen; this drug makes the skin burn easily
• Report any new ankle or heel pain immediately
• Avoid alcohol completely during the course and for 3 days afterwards
• A metallic taste is expected and passes
• Report any tingling in the hands or feet
