What Calcirol XT Tablet is used for

- Heartburn and acidity
- Phosphate binding in kidney disease
- Vitamin D deficiency, which is very common in India
- Bone pain, muscle weakness and fatigue from deficiency
- Rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults
- Osteoporosis, with calcium
How it works
Calcium carbonate
Calcium carbonate supplies calcium for bone and also neutralises stomach acid on contact, which is why it appears both as a supplement and as an antacid.
Vitamin d3
Vitamin D3 is converted by the liver and kidney into the active hormone that allows the gut to absorb calcium and the bones to mineralise properly. It also supports muscle and immune function.

Quick tips
- Split the dose — the body absorbs only about 500 mg of calcium at a time
- Keep it at least 4 hours away from thyroxine and 2 hours from iron or antibiotics
- Vitamin D is needed for calcium to be absorbed properly
- Take it with a meal containing some fat — it is fat-soluble and absorbed much better that way
- Do not take high-dose sachets more often than prescribed
- A blood test can confirm deficiency and guide the dose
