What Azee 500 Tablet is used for

• Throat, sinus and ear infections
• Chest infections and atypical pneumonia
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Some sexually transmitted infections
• Traveller's diarrhoea

How it works

Azithromycin binds to the bacterial ribosome and stops the bacterium making the proteins it needs to grow. It stays in the tissues for days, which is why short courses work.

Common side effects

• Nausea and stomach pain
• Loose motions
• Vomiting
• Altered taste
• Headache

Most side effects are mild and settle as your body adjusts. Tell your doctor if any of them persist or trouble you.

Safety advice

Quick tips

• A 3 or 5 day course is often enough because the drug keeps working after the last dose
• Take at the same time each day, with or without food
• Do not take antacids within 2 hours of the dose
