How it works

Ambroxol

Ambroxol thins sticky mucus and stimulates the tiny hairs lining the airway to sweep it upward, so a chesty cough clears more easily.

Levosalbutamol

Levosalbutamol relaxes the muscle around the airways within minutes by stimulating beta-2 receptors, opening the breathing tubes.

• Drink plenty of water — it is the water that actually thins the mucus
• Do not combine it with a cough suppressant; one loosens phlegm, the other stops you clearing it
• Take after food
• This is a reliever — if you need it more than twice a week, your asthma needs a preventer
• Tremor and palpitations after a dose are expected and settle
• Learn correct inhaler technique; most of the benefit depends on it
