How it works
Ambroxol
Ambroxol thins sticky mucus and stimulates the tiny hairs lining the airway to sweep it upward, so a chesty cough clears more easily.
Salbutamol
Salbutamol stimulates beta-2 receptors in the airway muscle, relaxing it within minutes and relieving wheeze and breathlessness.

Quick tips
- Drink plenty of water — it is the water that actually thins the mucus
- Do not combine it with a cough suppressant; one loosens phlegm, the other stops you clearing it
- Take after food
- Use a spacer with the metered dose inhaler — it doubles the amount reaching the lungs
- If one inhaler lasts less than a month, see your doctor
- Rinse your mouth after using inhalers
